Stolen sculpture recovered 6/17/01
Notice of ART THEFT:
This sculpture was taken from a garden at my home sometime between April 22 and April
29, 2001:
Artist, Peter Fagan
Title, "Raptor 1"
Medium, cast bronze, steel
Height, about 36"
Width, about 17"
Depth, about 17"
Weight, about 125 to 150 lbs
This sculpture depicts a bird of prey, a Falcon, with its prey, a Pheasant. It is
accurate anatomically, and in this representation.
It was included in an exhibition of sculpture "Illinois Traveling Sculpture
II", which toured the state for one year in 1978-79 and featured, in addition
to four of my works, the work of 26 other well known Illinois sculptors. It was part
of several other exhibitions after that, including the one man exhibition at the
Illinois State Museum in1979.
There are 5 other pieces of sculpture in my "Raptor" series. Of these,
4 were commissioned works and are in permanent public collections (2 on the UIUC
campus, 1 at the State of Illinois Building, Chicago, and 1 at North point Marina,
Winthrop Harbor IL). The other is part of an important private collection. "Raptor
1" is the only one that I still own, and I would like to have it returned to
me. Crimestoppers in Urbana-Champaign is offering a cash reward for information leading
to the return of the sculpture. Tel 217-373-8477
The lower part of the sculpture was changed slightly and a steel base was added sometime
after the photos were taken.
