Commissioned by the State of Illinois to create a life size
bronze full figure sculpture of the late Mayor Richard J. Daley.
The commission was decided on the basis of a statewide invitational competition
from which two finalists were chosen to make models for the proposed
sculpture. A one-third life size model, as well as a life size head
study, was made by each of the finalists.
Final selection was made by a
special advisory committee which included, among others, current
Chicago Mayor, Richard M. Daley.
The memorial statue was completed
in 1980, and was dedicated and installed in the Illinois State Capitol
Rotunda on June 23, 1981. |
